The Bunya Mountains enjoy a mild climate, with temperatures ranging from freezing to 30 degrees Celsius. It is even known to snow on the mountain! This region is typically 7–10 degrees cooler than surrounding areas and experiences four distinct seasons. Visitors are advised to pack warm clothing, even in summer. The average annual rainfall is approximately 1050 mm, with heavy fogs and mists commonly occurring during extended rainy periods.
Tucked above the living space, the Loft features oversized, comfy armchairs – perfect for curling yup with a book. A curated selection of Australian themed books, games and puzzles makes it a cosy hideaway for quiet moments or rainy days.
Bunya Mountains Horse Drawn Tours offers a unique and charming way to explore the stunning Bunya Mountains.
Tours start at just $5 per person, making it an affordable adventure for everyone. One of the highlights is the popular Billy Tea and Damper trip, which takes you through beautiful private rainforest areas. Guests are treated to fresh damper, billy tea, and roasted bunya nuts around a cozy campfire. This memorable experience lasts about 2 hours, with pricing at $50 for adults and $25 for children.

For adventure seekers, the Russell Park Mountain Bike trails offer an exhilarating experience with 20 km of trails designed for all ages and skill levels. The trails consist of three designated loops and one shared trail, connecting Fishers Lookout to Bunya Avenue and providing access to Dandabah. The paths vary in length from 1.3 km to 6.3 km and are designed to minimize environmental impact while preserving the area’s natural beauty.
Sculptural Meeting Ground: A 120-metre-long rock and concrete rainbow serpent sculpture, symbolizing creation and featuring spaces designated for men’s and women’s business, as well as a central performance area.
Genestreams Songlines Sculpture: An artistic representation of ancestral pathways, highlighting the deep connection between the people and the land.

The Bunya Mountains Community Markets are a delightful monthly event held on the last Sunday of each month from 9 AM to 2 PM on Bunya Avenue. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Bunya Mountains National Park, the markets feature a variety of stalls showcasing locally grown produce, homemade goods, and art and crafts. It’s a perfect family outing with plenty of space to relax and enjoy a picnic.
Don’t miss out on the must-try foods made from local Bunya nuts, including Bunya burgers, beef and Bunya pies, scones, carrot cake, and the famous Bunya nut ice cream.
For those seeking a refreshing escape, Coomba Falls in Maidenwell features a beautiful natural swimming hole surrounded by striking granite cliffs. It’s an ideal spot to cool off, especially on hot days.

Bunya Mountains Tavern and Australia’s highest Whisky Bar. Only a 10 minute walk from Lillypilly Lodge. Serving lunch and dinner. Enjoy a coffee and bunya nut scone on the deck overlooking the national park or sit by the fire and enjoy a whisky before dinner.
There is also a small general store selling basic pantry essentials, bread, toiletries, milk, ice-cream, sandwiches and takeaway coffee.
